YESHUA/a(U$"y /JESUS NAME STUDY
Yeh-shoo-ah (Jesus) — Variant of
“Y’hoshua” (Joshua; see below). In the
TANAKK (O.T.) nine persons and a city have
the name Yeshua, usually transliterated as “Jeshus” or
“Jeshuah.” In the Septuagint and the B’RIT HADASHAH (the
New Testament) the name was brought over into Greek as
Iesous and then into English as “Jesus.” It means “Y-H-V-H
saves” (Matthew 1:21) and is also the masculine form of Yeshua’ah
(“salvation”). (1) The Messiah of Israel, Yeshua from
Natzeret. In modern Hebrew Yeshua’s name is pronounced
and written “Yeshu,” which may have been the ancient pronunciation
in the Galil (Galilee area). However, reflecting two
thousand years of conflict between the Church and the Synagogue,
it is also an acronym for Yimach sh’mo v’zikhrono
(May his name and memory be blotted out”) However, the late
Yosef Vaktor, a Messianic Jewish Holocaust survivor, took it
as an acronym for Yigdal sh’mo umalkhuto (May his name and
kingdom grow”) Matthew 1:1+. (2) A Messianic Jew in Rome,
“Yeshua , the one called Justus.” Colossians 4:11.
Ye-shu-’ah — salvation; used in a word play on Yeshua’s
name at Luke 2:30
Y’ho-shu-a (Joshua)— leader of the people of Israel, led the
conquest of Eretz-Yisrael (land of Israel) after Moshe’s
(Moses) death.
Both Yeshua & Yoshua are based on same root word
(yud-shin-’ayin—(-#-y) which means: “he will save.”

Anne Epperson -- I'm not Kenn (though I know him and attended his Vineyard church for four years in 78-82), but I have also been trying to find this song as sung by him in digital form for years.

The best advice I can give, since Maranatha 2 (the album where this song was first published) is not in digital form, is to buy a vinyl copy of Maranatha 2 on ebay or elsewhere and then have someone convert the song from a record player to MP3.

As a sidenote, I would LOVE to get copies of Maranatha 1, 2, and 3 in cd form, but they don't seem to exist. I discarded my record player over 8 years ago... silly me.

Kenn Gulliksen, could you please respond to this comment!!!? I have sang "charity" in weddings, churches, etc ... but loaned your album out to a friend and have lost it. We had your songs played at our wedding in 1977.
please, please tell me how to get your original album... God has used that music is an amazing way!!

Are you aware that the orginal manuscripts were written Greek and did not even contain the name " Jesus "?
You are quoting scripture from an English bible, but even the 1611 KJV and the first three English bibles did not contain the name " Jesus ". Therefore the New
Testament believers did not baptise in Jesus name because it was not even devolopes until the late 1600's.
What say you ?

I love "Charity," too, having first heard it on Jamie Owens' (Collins) GROWING PAINS album, and chose it as one of my wedding songs, 26+ years ago. Thank you for being receptive to the Holy Spirit for that song, Rev. Kenn!

BTW, Cari, I am also now in full-time ministry in the Catholic Church, coordinating Christian education for adults. We aging "Jesus freaks" get around! 0:D

Wow! Who would have thought??? I was in my 20's - going through a crisis. I'm Catholic Christian and had a Christian Baptist roommate. We would tune in to a Christian Radio station in Amarillo in 1979 (WOW! 30 years ago) and every evening we'd request this song if we had not heard it before the night was over. I eventually went out and got the music - guitar music sheet and lyrics. I still have it - still love it as much as I did then. My roommate and I would pray together, read Scripture together and listen for Kenn's "Charity" each evening. Kenn, GOd has blessed you with the gift of music. Continue to praise God in song! I do! I am now in fulltime ministry in the Catholic Church.
